Hey Wild Ones,

You know what’s romantic? A candlelit dinner on the Amalfi Coast.

You know what’s also romantic? Not falling off a mountain while trying to prove you can still hike like you did in your 30s.

For active couples who prefer their romance with a side of adventure (and occasional ibuprofen), we’ve rounded up the best outdoor getaways. No bland “top ten” lists here—just real, breathtaking places where you can bond over fresh air, scenic views, and the occasional debate over who forgot the snacks.

As the golden leaves begin to fall and the crisp air sets in, it's time to gear up for some late fall hiking and prep for winter trekking. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or a weekend wanderer, here's everything you need to know to stay safe, prepared, and ready for whatever Mother Nature throws your way.

Some of our favorite romantic outdoor getaways

1.  Sedona, Arizona – Where Red Rocks and Romance Collide

Sedona is what happens when nature decides to show off. Towering rock formations, glowing sunsets, and hiking trails that make you feel like you’re in an old Western movie (minus the outlaws). Try  Cathedral Rock Trail  —it’s short but steep, like a love story with a dramatic ending. Afterward, reward yourself with a well-earned spa day, because nothing says “romance” like a good foot rub after a three-mile incline.

2. Bar Harbor, Maine – Lobster Rolls & Love Notes

This charming coastal town is the gateway to   Acadia National Park  , which is basically a giant postcard brought to life. Spend the morning biking the Carriage Roads (flat, scenic, and no risk of falling off a cliff—win-win), then grab a lobster roll by the harbor. If you’re feeling particularly inspired, hop on a sunset sailboat tour, where the water is calm, the air is crisp, and you can pretend you know the difference between port and starboard.

3.  Lake Tahoe, CA/NV  – For Couples Who Like Options

Lake Tahoe is a choose-your-own-adventure for outdoorsy romantics. Want a peaceful morning? Paddle a kayak on glassy water. Prefer a thrill? Hike the   Eagle Falls Trail  (short, stunning, and doesn’t require scaling anything too questionable). Visiting in winter? Snowshoeing through a quiet forest is magical—especially if neither of you falls over. End the day in a lakeside cabin with a hot tub, because romance isn’t dead, it just appreciates good lumbar support.

4.  Asheville, NC  – Where Hiking Meets Hipster Vibes

Asheville is part mountain escape, part artsy small town (not so small), which means you can balance your outdoor adventures with incredible food and craft beer. Start with a scenic drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway (good for couples who appreciate nature but also heated car seats). Then, hike to   Craggy Pinnacle  , which offers epic views in exchange for a reasonable amount of effort—our kind of deal. Finish the day with live music and a local brew, because, let’s be honest, you earned it. (Beer scene is cool)

Bert's Tip:

How to Avoid Becoming a Cautionary Tale

Romantic outdoor getaways are great, but let’s keep things from turning into an episode of Survivor. Check the weather (no one looks sexy in a surprise downpour), wear comfortable shoes (yes, even if they make your ankles look weird), and always—always—bring snacks. No one wants to hike with a hangry partner. (Jeff)
